GTA 6 Pre-Orders: Leaked May 18 Date

After 13 years, GTA 6 finally feels real. Not a meme. An actual game. It drops November 19 2026.

A Best Buy email just leaked. It says May 18 2026.

The leak: what Best Buy accidentally sent

YouTuber Frogboyx1Gaming first showed the email on stream. It's an affiliate promotion from Best Buy. The text reads: "GTA 6 Pre Order (Physical Game). Duration: May 18 2026 – May 21 2026. Online Sale: 5%."

That's not nothing. Affiliates get these emails to plan their links. Someone at Best Buy hit send too early.

Another creator, TGGonYT, posted on X: "I've received the email. It's all real. Only question is, was this a mistake?"

Reddit's r/GamingLeaksAndRumours lit up. Multiple users with Best Buy affiliate accounts saw the same email. A GTAForums user wrote: "Checked my affiliate Gmail account and can confirm this email is real."

Look, screenshots in 2026 aren't proof. Fake emails look cleaner than real ones now. But multiple unconnected sources? That's harder to fake.

Why this leak has teeth (and why it might not)

Best Buy isn't a random forum poster. It's a major US retailer. They don't accidentally make up fake campaigns. Someone typed "GTA 6 Pre Order" into their system. Someone scheduled those dates.

Here's what makes this believable:

• Multiple affiliates received identical emails
• The dates (May 18–21) line up with Take-Two's earnings call on May 21
• Rockstar has been silent since Trailer 2 dropped on May 5 2025
• We're exactly six months from the November 19 release date

But here's the counterargument nobody's making: that May 18 date was originally GTA 6's release date before the delay. What if Best Buy never updated their affiliate templates? What if this is a ghost from the old calendar?

I asked a friend who works in retail marketing. She said affiliate emails get drafted months in advance. "If a game delays," she told me, "those templates sit in a queue. Someone forgets to kill them. Happens all the time."

So yeah. This leak could be real. Or it could be corporate cobwebs.

When will Rockstar actually announce pre-orders?

Let me give you a number: 18 days.

That's how long before Red Dead Redemption 2 launched that Rockstar opened pre-orders. October 26 2018 release date. Pre-orders went live October 8 2018.

Eighteen days.

If GTA 6 follows the same pattern (and Rockstar loves patterns), pre-orders would open around November 1 2026. Not May.

May 18–21: Best Buy runs its 5% affiliate promo. Other retailers follow.

May 21: Take-Two's earnings call. Strauss Zelnick announces pre-order numbers.

That's the clean play. Rockstar controls the message. Best Buy's "leak" becomes free marketing.

What will GTA 6 cost?

This is what everyone actually cares about.

Standard edition: $69.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X. That's the current AAA price. PC? Later. Rockstar always delays PC.

But there will be more editions. Red Dead Redemption 2 had three: Standard ($60), Special ($80), and Ultimate ($100). GTA 6 will do the same or worse.

A collector's edition? Almost certainly. Reddit users are guessing $250 or more. Physical map, steelbook, maybe a statue. Rockstar knows people will pay.

For Indian players (since this runs globally), $70 converts to roughly Rs 6,650. Special editions could hit Rs 10,000+. Painful. People will still buy it.

Platform breakdown

Rockstar has been emailing PS4 owners telling them to upgrade. That's confirmation enough: current-gen only.

Will there be a PC version at launch?

Almost certainly not.

Rockstar's pattern: console first, PC 12-18 months later. GTA 5 took 18 months. Red Dead Redemption 2 took 13 months. Expect late 2027 or early 2028 for GTA 6 on PC.

PC players (I am one, I feel your pain) will wait. Again.

How to pre-order GTA 6 (if May 18 happens)

2. Amazon (probably same day)
3. GameStop (in-store pre-orders, maybe exclusive bonuses)
4. Target (standard retail)
5. PlayStation Store (digital pre-load)

My advice? Wait for the official trailer. Don't click random links. Scammers are already circling. I've seen fake "GTA 6 pre-order" ads on Twitter.

Bottom Line

I think the leak is a template error. Old dates from the May 26 release window that Best Buy forgot to delete. Real pre-orders won't open until October or November.
